How to reduce menstrual cramps...

Hey everyone! Its me again... This week some of my friends were going through what many other girls go through, yes, its that time of the month... Seeing how some of them are in so much pain, I decided to go online and find out how we girls can have an easier time when we are having our monthly cycles...

To begin, lets find out what causes excessive pain during menstrual cycles, the difference between menstrual cramps that are more painful and those that are less painful may be related to a woman's prostaglandin levels. Women with menstrual cramps have elevated levels of prostaglandins in the endometrium (uterine lining) when compared with women who do not experience cramps. Menstrual cramps are very similar to those a pregnant woman experiences when she is given prostaglandin as a medication to induce labor.

Did you know menstrual cramps can be measured?
Menstrual cramps can be scientifically demonstrated by measuring the pressure within the uterus and the number and frequency of uterine contractions. During a normal menstrual period, the average woman has contractions of a low pressure (50-80 mm Hg), which last 15-30 seconds at a frequency of 1-4 contractions every 10 minutes. When a woman has menstrual cramps, her contractions are of a higher pressure (they may exceed 400 mm Hg), last longer than 90 seconds, and often occur less than 15 seconds apart.

So now that you know that, what are some of the most popular ways we can reduce pain during menstrual cramps?

1. Adequate rest and sleep: which helps your body repair itself and reduces stress on you
2. Regular exercise: which induce blood circulation and the release of endorphines which help with the pain
3. Heating pads on the abdomen: which reduces pain and congestion which lessens symptoms
4. Drugs such as aspirin or acetaminophen which helps with minor pain or with major pain which need prescriptions ibuprofen, naproxen and ketoprofen among others. These drugs are to be taken a few days before the pain starts and not during the pain for best results as they reduce the level of prostaglandin thus reducing the pain.
5. Herbal remedies such as evening primrose oil, cramp bark and unicorn root helps as well.

Besides, here are some methods to actively reduce the pain even before it begins:
1. Keep a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables with lots of water
2. Taking dietary supplements like Vitamin E, thiamine and Omega-3 helps to reduce pain; Zinc and Calcium helps to reduce cramps, bloating and related PMS symptoms.
3. Regular visits to the doctor for checkups to ensure that you are in good health.
4. Do yoga and regular exercise which are helped to keep the body in good health and fitness level which will help to keep bodily function in good condition. There is a video to teach you a easy yoga exercise that you can do it at your home.

Finally, I am going to share a traditional Chinese way to reduce menstrual cramps ----- Black Sugar.  It is cheap, easy but effective. Add some black sugar to hot water, stir and drink it (ps: the water must be hot, or it will not work) You'd better drink one or two glasses a day from one week before your period comes to the 3rd day of it. Why it is effective? It is because Black Sugar can help us to replace the lost blood and increase blood circulation and make the cycle smoother. And we can buy it at any supermarket at the price less than 2 Singapore dollars.

With all that, I think that all the girls out there will be more prepared for the future knowing that we can do something about it and not suffer in silence from the pain. In short, keeping a healthy lifestyle and having enough supplements in your body will keep the pain away and if all else fails, there are drugs to help us counter the pain. So thats about it, until next time...

My Beauty Diary------ Mask recommendation

Hi, everyone!! It's been awhile and I've been away because of the Christmas and New Year holidays. How was your holidays? I had a wonderful break as I received a lovely Christmas gift---- My Beauty Diary, the brand famous for it's masks in Taiwan. It is amazing!! Ive been using them for a couple of weeks and so it's time for me to share my thoughts and experiences while using them.

It is the best buy in Taiwan and it is starting to get popular in Singapore. Since the beginning of 2004, girls have been pursuing the idea of "getting more beautiful everyday" and many companies have since launched products that are affordable, suitable for daily use and very versatile masks that cover a range of benefits. Besides, the mask's scents and appealing packaging allows us girls to choose the mask which fits our mood for the day and that in turn makes us feel better and relax which leads to physical and mental wellbeing which is killing two birds with one stone especially in this stressful day and age.

I personally think that the masks fit very well but the eye holes are a little bigger than I liked however the rest of the face fits very well. The sheet mask was moist but it was not messy and did not drip all over and even while I had the mask on, it did not dribble all over the place. So, I'll introduce my favorate masks that I've already tried and share it's features with you.

Wanna buy a coat?

It has been raining almost everyday in Singapore lately, and the indoor temperature is also too low (due to the strong air-conditioners in schools, shopping malls& buses). It makes me feel very cold thus not have any passion and mood to study which leads to browsing through the internet. Stumbling on fashionising(http://www.fashionising.com/clothing/blog--coats-22-1.html), I suddenly got an idea to a similar, low budget student version of my own and so today, we are talking about COATS...

There are many styles/types of coats for choosing, I recommend 4 types: Shirt, Sport ,Casual & formal, as I think these are more practical, more comfortable & easier to match with other clothes.

For SHIRTS, there are long, medium and fitting styles. I prefer the long ones, simply because it is more casual and more comfortable than the fitting ones. Tips: It is not a good choice for the shorter or petite girls as it will makes you look even shorter!!

The light colorful shirt makes you  look more active and energetic. Matching with T-shirt, shorts or leggings is also ok. Simple, easy and fast, no more hesitation when you choose what to wear tomorrow.

If you like figure hugging shirts, you can try these...

The colorful and fittable shirts express a cute and young look.Tie the shirt at waist area and you expose your tiny waist, girls with nice waistlines should really give this a try...

If you like the white-shirt very much...

SPORTY---You may think it is too mundane and far from fashionable. WRONG!! Wear it the right way and sporty can be fashionable.

For SPORTY jackets/coats, the color choice really is very important! Firstly, you should choose a more matching color of the sporty jackets (you may learn something about your perfect color in my older post---Color Class ). Tips:The pattern is not always necessary for sporty jackets. If the color of the coat is too dark or too light, you can choose some simple pattern to mix it up. Colorful coats and simple pants or shorts and  a simple pair of sports shoes or slipper and a simple bag will give a whole different look...

Besides, I strongly recommend the casual coat, as it is very comfortable and convenient. Another plus point is that there are many colors that we can choose from. Go ahead and try something new...

Tips: If your inner clothes are colorful, you had better choose a plain coat. If your coat is colorful, your inner clothes should be simple. That's a useful and practical advice for matching.

And lastly, formal coats. I have found many photos of colorful formal coats in some Korean webpages. I like it, and I have searched for it at the normal stores such as mango, ZARA, UNIQLO, cotton on and new look. However, I only found one light brown piece at ZARA (but the price is a little expensive for students in my own opinion)  That aside, I will give you more pictures and if you like it or you find some stores selling this kind of coats at an affordable prices, welcome to leave me a comment below...

Latest Trends... Floral Prints

Girls who shop often should have noticed that many stores are now carrying Floral Prints. In the 1960s, Floral Prints were very popular. However, in the 1990s, it would be considered very out-dated if you were caught wearing floral prints.

"Fashion is a continuous cycle." And now,it's BACK!!!

Thanks alot to College Fashion(http://www.collegefashion.net/fashion-tips/how-to-wear-floral-print/#comment-119216) & Genius Beauty(http://geniusbeauty.com/fashion-and-wear/how-to-wear-bright-color-flower-print/) for their inspiring articles on floral prints/flowery prints and now... Back to the topic...

Today, we will be talking about Floral Prints

Actually, Floral Prints has be the trend for about 2 years, but the system is not very complete and many people cannot accept it as fashionable. However, as time goes by, stores have been producing more and more clothes with flowery designs. Hence, more and more people are beginning to accept it.

WHY are floral prints popular?
Clothings with flowers are mostly made from cotton, which are breathable and very comfortable, the pretty flower designs can lend a classy feel to the look making people feel more approachable. Pants with floral prints give a retro feel about it giving it a fashionable feel.

So HOW do you look fashionable in a dress with floral prints?

DRESS:

All the dresses above has its own design around the chest or waist area, this puts the emphasis on the waist and the curves of the body giving girls the opportunity to show off their curves and slender figures...

BUT some dresses have no designs or focus, so what can we do about it? The solution is as simple as a belt...

Feeling cold? No problem。。。

A coat is a easy but very useful way.
Tips: The coat should be simple or plain colored,or you will look like a colorful butterfly!!!

What about shoes?
A simple pair of high-heeled shoes are enough. The simpler the better.

If you prefer long dresses...

Skirts:

Not bad, right? Many different types & styles for you to choose...

It can be a floral top too...

If you prefer retro...

The most important thing is: your other accessories and clothings should be as simple as possible!! This way you can let all the focus be on the Floral Prints.Too many colors & patterns will give others a very complicated and messy feel!

After all that, are you planning to buy Floral Prints today?
